The Sony KDL40Z5500 TV – An Initial Review
Sony have recently released their latest 40″ LCD TV, the Sony KDL40Z5500. Sony have implemented all of their latest developments meaning this TV is at the forefront of technology. An updated version of the Bravia engine is included, they have doubled the refresh rate to 200Hz and included a 10-bit panel.
This Sony KDL40Z5500 TV is HD ready and has a maximum picture resolution of 1920×1080 the highest currently available. The TV also has a digital tuner and a cable tuner as well as the analogue receiver. The helpful addition of the Bravia sync function allows for all your devices to be used using only the Bravia remote.
With the latest version of Sony’s Motionflow flicker and blur is reduced to an even greater degree. The frame rate is doubled from that which was previously available to a astounding 200Hz, which means 200 frames are displayed on your Sony KDL40Z5500 screen in just one second.
Sony’s latest Bravia engine, the Bravia engine 3, provides improves picture performance across all media types whether that be TV, Movie or gaming. The engine incorporates full digital signal processing resulting in an immensely clear picture and life-like colors. Black levels have been enhanced so they are at their most distinct and natural. Whilst optimizes these key features the engine also automatically detects and displays the optimum picture setting for the appropriate media broadcast.
Sony have also included a dynamic contrast ratio of 1m:1 this helps to improve the black levels whilst also improving the color representation. A 10-bit panel also allows for more data to be displayed on the Sony KDL40Z5500 screen at any time whilst the live color creation feature improves the colors displayed by 30% when compared to a conventional LCD.
With applicast the user can simultaneously watch the TV whilst surfing the internet whether you want to check-out a website that’s just been advertised or forgotten to make a reservation for a restaurant, all can be done without having to move a muscle.
Sony have installed software to allow the direct playback of media straight from a USB stick without the need fro streaming from a PC or conversion onto a disc. While they have also included four HDMI connections to allow for all your HD devices to be installed at the same time so you won’t have to fiddle behind the TV to swap any connections over.
The Sony KDL40Z5500 starts at around $1670. As with all new Sony’s now, they offer up to $300 off all new Bravia TVs over 26″ when you trade in an old TV, when bought at selected stores, getting you an even greater price on this TV. Even at full price this TV whilst expensive will not fail to impress.
